Yola Día
SZ | Advisory assisted in recruiting artists for the first annual Yola music festival. They contributed flags as an homage to the legacies of protest and pride. These newly imagined symbols flew at YOLA Día and made visible an ethos of self-determination, harmony and fluidity, challenging the strict binaries of citizenship and restrictive borders.
Participating Artists: Kelly Akashi, Math Bass, Susan Cianciolo, Corazon del Sol, Magdalena Suarez Frimkess, Torey Thornton, Zoe Latta, Nancy Lupo, Willa Nasatir, Liza Ryan, Laurie Simmons, Martine Syms, Frida Escobedo, Kandis Williams, Sam Moyer, Marilyn Minter, Jessi Reaves, Kathryn Garcia, Kiki Smith, Natalia Ortega Gámez, Krista Kashis, Dalton Gata, Yanyan Huang, Nevine Mahmoud, and Shana Lutker
Each flag was auctioned to benefit the ACLU and its immigration law and policy program, which has been working to reunite families at the border and support asylum seekers.
